Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
