Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
